This is your brain in public school.....

Well, I guess I'm not HTML savvy enough to figure out how to get this image on here I wanted to share because the site administrator cut the photo into 4 pieces (I don't know why it's that big of a deal!), so I'll just share the link. Check out the image at the top of THIS PAGE.

(Ah ha! Maybe that's why they do it.....to get more traffic to their site!)

  1. interesting ... of course, if we as parents would take some initiative and not depend so much on the schools, there could be a huge turn around! I speak for myself, though my child is in public school - and you know the situation - if I depend on them I feel I'll end up disappointed with my children's education ... perhaps it's time for me to put a plan into action to battle some of the challenges (and I'm referring more to the spiritual, not educational) ... thank you, you have enlightened me and I believe God used you as a messenger to remind me of my responsibilities with my kiddos!

p.s. while I see the point, I've also known many a homeschooler who really wasn't being schooled at all and getting credit for things like taking a walk or making an errand to get groceries, at the time I felt it ludicrous and still do!

  2. Exactly, parents are responsible for the child(ren)'s education whether in public school or not. I have so many reasons why I will never send mine to public school, but if they did go there, I would constantly be correcting things they learn or pulling them out at certain times. I would hate it! LOL!

Now, Sash, why couldn't you count a grocery store trip or a hike as a homeschooling/learning experience? On the hike they are getting physical exercise (PE), learning about nature (science) and possibly many other things, depending on where they are walking/hiking! And being outside also helps their vision as they have to focus far away. A grocery store trip helps the child learn menu planning, how to make a grocery list, how to budget, math (trying to figure out which item is the best price/ounce or buying multiples of something, etc.).....the list goes on! There is learning in EVERYTHING, but not all parents take the opportunity to see that!
