Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any good resources, books, web sites, etc. for teaching a child to walk? Jack is 19 months old now and is just not getting it. I can't figure out if it is him or me. Maybe if I find some instructional videos (Oh, I'll check YouTube!) then he can pick it up quicker. Do you think Mardel has any workbooks I could go through with him? It is very important that he learns this! I don't want him to be crawling around in college!!! Maybe I'll get him a tutor.

Okay, I am totally being sarcastic. I guess I'm just in that mood today. People are so ignorant and frustrating sometimes, thinking that all children have to learn the same way, the same things and on the same time frame. Ugh!

  1. He just took his first steps yesterday, so I like to think he is, but he's still crawling about 99% of the time. Maybe tomorrow it will be 95%, then 90, then 80, etc. You know how it is, at least with my kids, it is a very gradual process. :)

  3. That is hilarious. Can you add potty-training to that too?

  4. lol- hmmm... if you find any while you're looking, let me know if you find a private tutor who can teach our DHs to pick up their socks. :P

  5. here here! and a tutor for teaching the ability to pick up toys, laundry, blankets ... hey - how bout a tutor for me too, maybe there's a secret to being a great housekeeper! lol - you know I'm just being funny! just always remember that Jack was born early, in terms of "milestones" I'd be using his adjusted age, plenty of kids don't walk until 18 months and even later for preemies! God bless

  6. Ha ha -- I thought you were serious at first, too! Too funny.

Yes, sigh, we were just at a family reunion where one particularly voluble aunt wanted to know why our 20-month-old wasn't talking yet. I wanted to tell her if she'd just pipe down, she could maybe hear him! :) Ok, he might have only a few words, but he signs -- but I guess some people aren't satisfied.

Our son only learned to walk in the past couple months, and it took him awhile to get the hang of it. So I totally understand the desire to have Jack start walking already, but you've been a very patient mother waiting for his right time.

But let me know if you need some flashcards. lol

  7. Y'all are hilarious! I'd love a tudor for picking up socks, washing dishes, etc. for my husband too! :)

Lauren, my 3rd (Jacob) was a late talker (verbally) too because he was such a good communicator in other ways. He signed a lot, but we also had a close connection.....it seemed I just always knew what he wanted / needed. So people would ask me why he wasn't saying much yet, and I just simply said, "He does, just not verbally, but he communicates amazingly well!" :) Now Jack doesn't say much at all yet either, but he does communicate (not as clearly as jacob, but still well), so I am not worried. :)

I may take the flashcards if he doesn't take off soon! LOL
